405 – Vintage Shopping

Welcome to Savoring Our Lives! In this week’s episode, we:

Notes from the past!

Found a message from the past
In a recipe we made in October we left notes for future us. Past Ruth and Chad were very wise. We’re going to keep putting notes in to our recipe manager, Paprika.

Remade an old Blue Apron recipe
For dinner on Saturday, we decided to pull out an old Blue Apron recipe – Shiitake & Hoisin Beef Burgers.

Went vintage shopping
We hit up Tip Top Atomic Shop in Milwaukee to find some bowling shirts from Chad. Then we visited BC Modern Furnishings which was super cool. Ruth’s been following the owner, Eric Lewis, on Instagram. He told us,”I started chasing my passion instead of chasing a paycheck” which totally inspired us.

Made our own pizza for Wineza
We made pizza (and Ruth made her first Instagram Story!) on Friday. We have a good pizza dough recipe, so got all the toppings and made pizza at home. But first, we stopped at the wine bar.

Resolute Cabernet

Went out for burgers
Once again we visited Vintage 38 with burgers from Ricardo’s across the street and paired dinner with a  Cabernet Sauvignon by Resolute.

Want to share your story about making pizza at home? Want to side with Chad and lobby for a kitchen studio…let us know!

310 – Thanksgiving Week

Welcome to Savoring Our Lives! In this week’s episode, we:

Had Date Night
We went to Mr. B’s Steakhouse for burgers. The menu changed from the specialty burgers what we had anticipated so we were kind of sad.

Friendsgiving 2017
Pilgrim’s Pie

Enjoyed Friendsgiving
Our friends “The Sisters” get a group of people together a few times a year for all-you-can-eat sushi at Wasabi. This Thanksgiving eve was a fantastic group of people and amazing service.

Made Food for Thanksgiving
We got coffee and then made Rumchata French Toast for breakfast. For dinner we made “Taste Likes Thanksgiving Casserole” or what Chad calls “Pilgrim’s Pie.” Then, for dessert, we made Tiramisu. We had a Zinfandel from Federalist from the Dry Creek Valley. It was bold and delicious and we went back and bought more.

Played Board Games
Ruth pulled two board games up from the basement which neither of us had played with they other. We played Settlers of Catan and Sequence.

Sequence

Supported Businesses for Small Business Saturday
We went wreath shopping at Prospect Hill Garden Center; garland shopping at  Stein’s Garden and Home; and relaxed with a glass of big red wine at Vintage 38.

Four Things Tote
Ruth ran across a site called theshopforward.com that personalizes tote bags with your favorite four things. Which four things would you choose for your tote?

Want to share your story about how you’re savoring your life? Or if you want to let us know what your favorite four things are or even what you had for Thanksgiving…let us know!

308 – Wine and Friends

Welcome to Savoring Our Lives! In this week’s episode, we:

Had a lot of chicken
Ruth made slow cooker salsa chicken last week and killed the ceramic part of the crock pot while cleaning up. We ordered a new crock but we’re not sure it fits but we’re cooking some more chicken right now so we’ll see if it works.

The 19 Crimes criminals

Had a lot of wine
Chad saw something on social media about 19 Crimes Wine and the augmented reality app they developed. So he volunteered to go shopping for dinner and came back with five different bottles of the wine. We had a blast using the app and watching the stories.

Discussed date night
A number of things changed and we’re not really going out on the regular for trivia anymore. Instead, Ruth suggested trying different restaurants on Monday and making it date night.

Went out with friends
We had a wide open schedule this weekend and our friends Chris and Christine invited us out for margaritas at Guanajuato. Afterwards, we all headed over to our house for wine, cheese, crackers, and doggy snuggles.

Wine on Wednesday

Stopped by our usual wine bar for inspiration
We got out of the house to come up with some Grand Ideas in advance of a meeting Ruth was going to have. We threw the barkeep for a loop showing up without pizza and on a Wednesday.
